Dharmaraja

King Somaka arrives in the next world and finds his preceptor being cooked in a terrible hell. When he learns the priest suffers for a sacrifice performed on Somaka's behalf, he demands to take his place — and argues with Dharmaraja himself that their deeds are identical and their fates should be shared.

As the Pandavas and their companions enter Mount Gandhamadana, a violent storm descends — dust, wind, and rain blind and scatter them. They grope through darkness, each finding separate shelter under trees and mountainsides, until the storm passes and they reassemble to continue their journey.

The gandharvas have captured the Kauravas and their wives on the battlefield. Arjuna, seeing this, demands their release on the orders of Dharmaraja Yudhishthira. The gandharvas laugh and refuse — they obey only the lord of the gods. Arjuna gives them one chance to release the captives peacefully, then draws his bow.
