On Mount Rishabha lived an ascetic named Rishabha, aged many hundreds of years and extremely prone to anger. When anyone addressed him, he commanded the mountain to shower stones on whoever spoke — and summoned the wind to ensure no sound was uttered at all. Lomasha tells Yudhishthira this story as he has heard it.

Lomasha said: O king, I will tell you as I have heard it earlier. Listen attentively. On this Mount Rishabha lived an ascetic named Rishabha. He was aged many hundreds of years and was extremely prone to anger. When others addressed him, he grew angry and commanded the mountain: Shower stones on whoever utters a word here. Then he summoned the wind and ordered that not a sound should be uttered. And so it was. If a man speaks a word, the clouds restrain him. Through such deeds, the maharshi performed some acts out of anger and restrained others from being done.
