Hunter Serves Parents After Brahmana Departs
After the brahmana departs, the hunter — now confirmed in his wisdom — begins to serve his mother, father, and elders with renewed devotion, fulfilling the rishi's favor through the simplest of acts.
Markandeya concluded the account for Yudhishthira.
The hunter had granted the brahmana leave. The brahmana had circumambulated him — a final gesture of respect — and departed.
When the brahmana was gone, the hunter did not rest. He began to serve his mother, his father, and the elders — always, assiduously, in accordance with the prescribed rules. The rishi's favor had promised that through serving his parents, he would achieve great success. The hunter had not forgotten.
"O Yudhishthira! O son! O foremost among those who uphold dharma! I have thus told you everything that you asked me about — the greatness of a faithful wife, the excellence of brahmanas and servitude towards the mother and the father by the hunter, recounted as dharma." Aranyaka Parva, Chapter 503
