The Birth and Rise of Skanda
Aranyaka Parva
How was Skanda born, and how did he become the commander of the gods?
Agni, inflamed with desire for the wives of the Saptarshis, spills his seed, which Svaha carries to a golden well, leading to the birth of Skanda. The infant god grows rapidly, terrorizing the worlds until Indra attacks him and is defeated. The gods then offer Skanda the generalship of their armies, which he accepts, and he marries Devasena as destined by Brahma.
