The Birth and Education of Drona from Bharadvaja
The sage Bharadvaja sees the celestial dancer Ghritachi, and his seed falls. He places it in a pot, and from that vessel, Drona is born. The boy studies every sacred text and receives the knowledge of divine weapons, becoming a sage of formidable power.
Maharshi Bharadvaja was preparing to pour oblations into the sacred fire when he saw the apsara Ghritachi bathing. The wind blew her garment away. At that sight, his semen issued forth. The wise sage caught it and placed it in a vessel.
From that pot, Drona was born.
He studied all the Vedas and the Vedangas (the auxiliary sciences of the Vedas). His father, the powerful Bharadvaja — supreme among those who know dharma — had himself been taught the knowledge of the agneya weapon, the divine fire-missile, by the illustrious Agniveshya, a sage born from fire. Bharadvaja passed that formidable knowledge on to his son.
Thus, Drona entered the world not from a womb, but from a vessel of intent and discipline, already marked for a life of learning and martial mastery.
