Tormented by desire, Shiva — the wife of the sage Angiras — approaches Agni and threatens to kill herself if he does not satisfy her. She reveals that the wives of the saptarshis have learned of Agni's longing through signs and have sent her to him. Agni, overjoyed, accepts her.

Shiva was the wife of Angiras, a woman of conduct, beauty, and virtue. She went to Agni and spoke plainly. "O Agni! I am tormented by desire. You must satisfy me. If you do not, know that I will kill myself. I am Shiva, the wife of Angiras. I have decided to come here after consulting my friends." Agni asked her: "How did you know that I was suffering from desire? How did all the others — the beloved wives of the saptarshis — come to know this?" Shiva answered: "You have always been our beloved. But we were afraid of you. Now that we have learned of your desire through signs, they have sent me to you. O Agni! I have come here to have intercourse with you. Quickly satisfy the desire we feel. The mothers are waiting for my return." Extremely happy, Agni then lived with Shiva.
