Weighing the risks of the imperial sacrifice, Yudhishthira decides Krishna alone can chart the true course. A messenger speeds to Dvaraka, and Krishna, eager to see his friend, immediately travels to Indraprastha. He is received with brotherly love and honor, settling in to rest before the weighty consultation begins.

Having reflected deeply, Yudhishthira arrived at his final conclusion. A wise man who acts with complete deliberation, considering his own powers and the potential for ruin, never perishes. The weight on his shoulders was real, and his thoughts went out to Krishna Janardana as the right person to decide the course of action. Hari was supreme in all the worlds, immeasurable, mighty-armed. Born among men only because of his own wishes, his feats rivaled those of the gods. There was nothing that was not the consequence of his deeds, and nothing he could not bear. Thus, Partha Yudhishthira swiftly sent a messenger to one who was like his preceptor and the preceptor of all beings. The messenger rode a swift chariot and soon reached the Yadavas and the Dvaraka-residing Krishna in Dvaravati. Hearing that Partha was eager to see him, Achyuta (the unfallen one) was also eager. He went to Indraprastha at once, travelling through many countries on swift mounts until he reached Partha in his shining city. Dharmaraja (Yudhishthira) showed him homage in his house, as to a brother. So did Bhima. With a gladdened heart, Krishna then went to see his father’s sister, Kunti. After that, he sported himself with his beloved well-wisher, Arjuna, and was worshipped like a preceptor by the twins, Nakula and Sahadeva. After he had rested in that pleasant place for some time and was refreshed, the stage was set. The king would come to him, and the question that had set a messenger racing across the land would finally be asked.
