Bhima Slays Yakshas at the Lotus Pond
When the Pandava party finally reaches the sougandhika pond, they find Bhima standing on its banks with his club raised, surrounded by the bodies of the yakshas he has already slain. Yudhishthira embraces him — then warns him never to do such a thing again.
Led by Ghatotkacha, who was foremost among the rakshasas and knew the region around Kubera's pond, the party travelled together — the Pandavas, the brahmanas, and Lomasha — until they saw the grove and the extremely beautiful pond covered with sougandhika lotuses.
They saw Bhima along its banks.
He was standing with his club raised in both arms, like Yama with a staff in his hand at the time of the destruction of beings. Around him lay the bodies of the large-eyed yakshas he had slain — the guardians of the pond, who had tried to stop him from taking the flowers.
Yudhishthira went to him and embraced him again and again. He spoke in gentle words.
"O Kounteya! What have you done? O fortunate one! Because of your courage, you have brought displeasure to the gods. If you wish to bring me pleasure, never commit such deeds again."
Having instructed Kounteya, they collected the lotuses and amused themselves in that lotus pond, like the immortals. Aranyaka Parva, Chapter 450
